Mobile phone users are being warned not to buy unbranded and unmarked replacement chargers over the internet or from shops or market stalls, following safety fears.
Tests carried out jointly by Lambeth Council Trading Standards and the Electrical Safety Council (ESC) on cheap mobile phone chargers for sale online and in local South London shops and markets found that the majority of those tested did not meet UK safety standards, and therefore could potentially cause electric shocks to the user or overheat and catch fire.
