Huge amounts of revenue that should be heading to legitimate businesses will instead be diverted to crooks and conmen behind the massive fraud, according to Birmingham’s trading standards boss.
Each gig is already expected to bring £3.5 million to the local economy, but thousands more will be siphoned off by fraudsters.
Scores of cowboy souvenir vendors will make a killing selling the sub-standard merchandise in the streets around Villa Park before and after shows tonight and tomorrow – despite a drive by Birmingham City Council to stop fans falling victim to the souvenir scam.
